About

Bev's Steak is a chef owned steakhouse tucked beneath Cherry Street in the heart of downtown Black Mountain, just 20 minutes from Asheville.

Opened in December 2025 by husband and wife Jake and Ali Whitman, the restaurant offers a fresh interpretation of the American steakhouse through the lens of Western North Carolina's farms and Asian culinary technique. With seating for 58 guests, including a full bar and a seasonal outdoor patio, Bev's was designed to feel intimate, welcoming, and relaxed, delivering an approachable fine dining experience for both locals and visitors. We look forward to welcoming you.

Jake & Ali Whitman

Jake Whitman is the executive chef and co-owner of Bev's Steak, where he brings together decades of experience in some of Western North Carolina's most respected kitchens. Whitman has held leadership roles at Ben's Tune Up, The Admiral, Zambra, Copper Crown, Native Kitchen, and was most recently executive chef/partner at Pure & Proper, developing a cooking style rooted in thoughtful sourcing, technical precision, Asian flavors, and a deep respect for seasonal ingredients.

Ali Whitman is the co-owner of Bev's Steak and the driving force behind much of the restaurant's guest experience, design, and day to day operations. A Black Mountain native, she spent years working in hospitality as well as the art world, advising collectors and managing galleries before transitioning into real estate.  Alongside Jake, Ali carefully developed every aspect of Bev's, from sourcing vintage furnishings and creating the intimate atmosphere to building a hospitality experience centered on warmth and connection.
